How Do You Download Codecs For Windows Media Player?
A codec is a bit of software that allows a video player like Windows Media Player to use video files the player wouldn’t be able to otherwise handle. Once you install the codec, you do need to do anything else with it as it will run in the background and provide support for video files that Windows Media Player may not recognize, such as AVI, MP4, DIVX, MKV and many others. Navigate to a site offering a codec pack such as Media Player Codec, Windows Essentials or K-Lite (see “Resources’). These packs all work basically the same way. Click the “Download Now” link on the site. Click “OK” in the dialog box that appears to begin downloading the software. Double-click the installation file to install the codec onto your computer. It will load the next time you play a video outside of what Windows Media Player can handle.
