As a technical writer for a very small electronics manufacturing company, our needs were many but our funds were few, so when I was asked to draw a flow chart for our production line, I turned to the only software program we had at the time, MS Word. By turning on the Drawing Tools in this excellent program, I was able to create a flow chart that anyone could edit, revise or alter for their own use. By using the Drawing Tools in MS Word, there is no need to import a simple drawing such as an arrow, banner, connectors, etc., as they are all part of the Drawing Tools feature. Open MS Word and from the title bar menu options, select View, Toolbars and Drawing. This will turn on your drawing toolbar. You will find it at the bottom or top of your screen. From the Drawing Toolbar, select Flowcharts and click to select the flowchart symbol you need for the next step in your flow chart.
