Upgrading a computer to wireless Internet, or simply to figure out what type of Ethernet controller is in the machine is a quick and easy process. While a simple search of the computer would seem like a logical way of finding it, the Ethernet Controller is more complicated to be found, so it can’t be accidentally deleted. Locating the Ethernet Controller is also important if the system has not automatically done so. Locate the “My Computer” icon on the desk top. Right click the “My Computer” icon and select the “Properties” option from the menu. Select the “Hardware” tab located at the top of the properties menu. Choose “Device Manager” from the hardware tab. Select the “+” next to “Network Adapters” on the device manager menu. The name of the Ethernet Controller should be located in a sublisting of “Network Adapters.” If the system has not recognized the hardware, it must be manually searched for.
