Somatropin is a generic name for human growth hormone replacement. According to the Physician’s Desk Reference, it is used to treat certain conditions (such as Prader-Willi Syndrome) that causes abnormal growth in children and HIV-induced wasting. Other conditions may also be treated with somatropin. The most common injection method for all somatropin medications is the subcutaneous pen. Consult your physician if you have a different somatropin delivery method. Prepare Pen Step 1 Wipe the mixed cartridge insertion end with alcohol wipes and twist it onto the pen. Some cartridges come premixed and others require an additional step, so follow the cartridge guide. Step 2 Use another alcohol wipe to wipe the end of the somatropin cartridge where the needle goes.
