How Do You Install A New Steering Rack In A Geo Metro?
The Geo Metro was last sold in the United States in 2001 after being marketed under several different names and brands. Although still marketed as a Suzuki product in Japan, the final generation, introduced in 1995, ended sales as a Chevrolet Metro. Installing a new steering rack for the last generation models is essentially the same whether your Metro is equipped with a manual or power steering rack and pinion system. Disconnect the battery cables. Slide the driver’s seat as far back as possible and remove the driver’s side carpet to access the steering shaft. Remove the cover then remove the lower joint bolt and detach the joint from the pinion. Pull the front wheels from your Metro and disconnect the tie rod ends. Separate the exhaust pipe from the manifold and remove it. If your car is equipped with manual transmission, disconnect the linkage and extension rod.
