How Do You Make A 5 Gallon Aquarium Interesting?
• Get a pump and filter of an appropriate scale and capacity for the tank. Filters and pumps aren’t especially interesting to look at, so choose one that is unobtrusive. • Get a tank heater. In most places, a heater is required in order to keep tropical fish. • Decide on the look you want your tank to have. A natural look can be really beautiful, but requires lots of live plants that you may not want to or be able to keep in your tank setup; and no non-natural decoration. A ‘fake’ set-up generally includes coloured gravel, sunken ships, ‘No Fishing!’ signs and the like. It can look a little cheesy, or rather nice. It’s alldown to personal taste. • Choose your substrate, generally sand or gravel. Mix in some shiny marbles or glass beads for a bit of extra pizazz, if you aren’t after a natural set-up. • Get some plants for your aquarium. Some easy starter plants that only require 1 watt of light per gallon include: Crpytocorynes, Hygrophila, Java Fern, Ambulia, Vallisnera, Anubias & Java
