How Do You Make A Model Of DNA Using Common Materials?
A classic project in many science classes that brush on Genetics is the DNA model. There are many methods to building a model of DNA and no “right” way to do it. • Learn about the DNA structure so that you know what you are attempting to build. DNA is a double helix that when untwisted looks like a ladder. • Find a base for the model so that it will stand (if necessary). Generally, you want a base that is sturdy enough to hold your model while not so strong that you can’t punch holes in it to attach your model. Thick paper plates, Styrofoam, even plastic cups can be good. • Figure out how you intend to attach the model to the base before you do anything else so that you won’t need to go back and redo things. • Find materials to make the sides of the helix out of.
