How Do You Make A Natural Bow And Arrow?

There are two types of natural bow and arrows you can make depending on how much time you are willing to spend on making it. The bow and arrows used in the past as the weapon of choice for the oldest societies were not created in a day. It would take weeks, and sometimes months for a bow and arrow to be fully ready. However that technique will not save you if you are lost in the wilderness and want to make a bow and arrow from the resources around you, so I am going to give you a brief guide on how to make a very natural bow and arrow in a day.

Materials for the Bow

Flexible wood, knife (or a very sharp rock if you’re going complete caveman on this), string

How to Make the Bow

Find flexible wood. Trees that have been used to make bows include Juniper, Chokecherry, Serviceberry, Skunk brush.

Make a slit about an inch from each end of the branch.

String the bow. The string can be made from many different materials including vine, caterpillar silk, fishing string and/or nylon rope. The right type of string for the bow may take some trial and error. After you find the correct material tie the string tightly around the top and bottom of the bow into the notches you made. Make sure the string is tight and the bow bends slightly without breaking.

Materials for the Arrow

A stick, feathers (optional)

How to Make the Arrow

Find a thin, long, strong stick. The stick needs to be strong so it won’t break when you hit your target and long enough so the bow can reach its full potential.

The stick can be whittled down to a sharp point and heated slightly over a fire to make it stronger.

Feathers can be attached to the back of the arrow if desired. You can either glue the feathers on or you can split the back of the arrow and slide the feather in. Once the feather has been inserted tightly wrap a thin thread around the feather. The thread can be from your own clothing if you have no other options. The attached feathers are called fletching and they can improve the fight of the arrow, but fletching is not necessary.

Just knowing how to make a bow and arrow will probably not save you out in the wilderness. Archery is a skill that it takes years for people to perfect. So if you do plan to try this out in the wilderness, unless you are a master archer, make sure you have other survival materials handy.

Ever wanted to become an archery expert, but haven’t got any money to buy or hire a decent bow and set of arrows? well here’s the guide that will give you a bow as good as the one here. • Find the freshest wood possible. The best thing to do would be to take a saw and cut a branch right off a tree. The ideal branch would be flexible and snap right back into place when bent. Also it should have a slight natural curve (it doesn’t have to be that big of a curve because it will shape itself as you use it). Cut all the extra twigs from the branch. You may want to leave a short one in the middle of the bow to use as a guide for the arrow. • Make a slit about an inch from each end of the branch. The slit should be angled toward the branch so that the string will stay in place. • String the bow. First tie a strong knot in the first slit. Pull on the string to make sure it stays in place. Next make another knot, about 6 inches shorter than your bow. Then bend the bow and slowly pull the knot un
