How Do You Make Amish Friendship Bread From A Starter Mix?

If you don’t have a starter already you will need to make your own. If a friend gives you a starter mix you won’t have to worry about making it. The starter mix is made from flour, milk, yeast, and sugar. You can also use Bisquick in the place of flour if you like; it makes a very nice cake-like bread. In a gallon sized Ziploc bag combine the ingredients to make the starter mix. It is equal parts 1 and 1/2 cups each of flour, sugar, and milk. Dissolve a packet of yeast in warm water and then add to the mixture. When you seal the bag get out as much air as you can. Mash the bag several times to mix up the ingredients. Date the bag, and count this as your first day. You will let the bag sit for a period of 10 days out on your counter. You don’t want to refrigerate it because you want the ingredients to ferment. On day 2, 3, 4 and 5 you will mash the bag. You will have to release the pressure in the bag. Just open the Ziploc bag when you see that it is blowing up with gas. Release the gas
