Flowers cut from the garden or wildflowers gathered during a nature hike can be used to fill a vase. They will provide a colorful centerpiece, yet after the blossoms fade and the petals fall from the stems, the flowers must be discarded. But, if we dry the flowers before they fade, they can be used as a component in a craft project, which can be admired for many years. There are different ways to dry flowers, and not all ways are suitable for all craft projects. To make crafts from dried flowers, the flowers must first be dried in a manner best suited for the intended project. Choose newly blooming flowers, without blemishes. Wilted petals, or flowers with signs of insect infestation or disease should be avoided. Cut the stem below the blossom, 4 inches or more. Leave the flower head attached to the stem during the drying process, even if you intend to remove the petals later.
