Set the pan aside. Melt 2 cups of butter in the saucepan. Add sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Cook and stir over medium heat until the candy thermometer reads 295 degrees (hard-crack stage). Quickly pour into prepared pan. Let it stand at room temperature until cool, about an hour. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave and spread over cooled toffee. Sprinkle nuts over the chocolate.
