How Do You Patch Galvanized Pipe Without Threads?
Replacing a section of galvanized pipe generally requires that you thread the ends of the pipe to connect the pipe together. On galvanized drain lines that have no pressure, you can patch the pipe with a no-hub coupling. No-hub couplings are used seal connections on cast iron pipe, but they also work on other types of pipe as long as the two pieces of pipe have the same outer diameter. Installing a no-hub coupling onto galvanized pipe will save you money, because there is no equipment to rent. Step 1 Lay the pipe wrap onto the galvanize pipe. Circle around the pipe twice with the pipe wrap. Align the pipe wrap on one side of the pipe that needs patching. Run the permanent marker around the edge of the pipe wrap. Move the pipe wrap to the other side of the damaged area of pipe. Re-align the pipe wrap, and mark the line with the permanent marker. Remove the pipe wrap from the galvanized pipe.
