How Do You Prepare For A Flood Using Disaster Planning?
River flooding is dangerous and destructive. They move things in their path, destroy property, and sweep away everything you’ve been working so hard to keep. It wasn’t until the spring of 2009 that I really knew the power of a flood. Living in the city of Fargo, North Dakota, the community was hit with the scare of our lives that caused the community to quickly comprise disaster planning. The Red River runs through the heart of our city and the bordering town of Moorhead, Minnesota. The river began to start the typical flow north, but with a few dramatic snow falls, the river was not yet unfrozen. This meant that the river was moving slowly, and the height of the river was at a record height. The community was alerted of the river levels, and as a community we had to band together to prepare our disaster planning for the possibility of river flooding causing severe flood damage.
