• Dye your hair on a day that you have not washed your hair or your skin. The extra oils from your scalp and pores are natural protectants and your first defense against stained skin. Try to wait at least 1 day after your last hair and face cleansing to color your hair. • Protect the perimeter of your hairline before coloring. Use petroleum jelly, moisturizing cream, conditioner or a thick lotion to create a protective wall just outside of your hairline, around the entirety of your head. Be careful not to get it in your hair, and don’t forget the tops and undersides of your ears. • Reinforce your protective perimeter with cotton.
