Unplug the Maytag dryer power cord from the dryer electrical outlet. Move the dryer away from the wall one foot to allow room to maneuver the control console. Pry the spring retainers from under the front of the control console with the blade of a putty knife. Insert the putty knife blade between the top panel and front corner of the control console, and lift up on the control console. Some Maytag models use three screws mounted on top of the control console. Remove the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Place a towel across the top of the top panel.
