If your British passport is set to expire while you’re in the United States, you can renew it through the UK Passport Service for the Americas and Caribbean in Washington. The U.K. government states that you can renew your passport at any time, even before it expires. If you apply within nine months of its expiration, you can transfer the remaining validity time to your new passport. In other words, if you renew your passport six months before it expires, your new passport will be valid for 10 years and six months. Download and print an application form from the British Embassy website. Complete the application. Make sure you include your e-mail address in section 1a, and initial in the bottom right-hand corner of each page. Have a new passport photo taken and include two copies with your application.
