How do you replace the alternator V-belt in a 1986 Chevy Celebrity?
The first thing you need to do is make a serious mental note how the belt is routed around the various pulleys. There may even be a manufacturers decal located under the hood that shows the belt routing, if not draw yourself a picture if you have a fuzzy mind. The way to remove the belt is to release the tension off the belt tensioning pulley. It is a pulley mounted on a spring loaded pivot arm. On this car, it will have a metric bolt in its center and will probably be 15mm, but could vary. Simply take the appropriate wrench and torque the tensioner to provide slack in the belt with one hand and remove the belt from any other pulley with your other hand. After this, the belt will come right off with ease. To install, get the belt wrapped around the pulleys correctly except for the last one on top you can get to (usually the alternator). With one hand on the wrench torque the tensioner with your wrench so the belt has enough slack to go around the last pulley and then release the tensio
