How Do You Rescue A Baby Raccoon?
Raccoons typically breed in late winter or early spring. It is important to know that just because you see a baby raccoon unattended by the mother, this does not mean the baby is orphaned or in need of your assistance. Baby raccoons are not nocturnal until 11 months old, so they often wander out to explore the world while the mother sleeps nearby. Watch and wait. In addition to wandering from home while mom sleeps, baby raccoons are also sometimes alone because mom is out foraging for food, or because she is moving her family to a new den and can only carry one baby at a time. Watch the baby for several hours to make sure it is really unattended before deciding it needs help. Find a pet carrier, cage, or other suitable container that provides adequate ventilation.
