How Do You Restore An Active Desktop.HTT File?

0

Active Desktop is a Microsoft addition to its operating system that stores personal settings for a user’s desktop in HTML format. The technology was included in Windows 98 operating systems until Vista, when it was discontinued. Active Desktop occasionally crashes and a new file needs to be restored. Active Desktop automatically creates the HTT file when the old one is renamed or deleted and the desktop is refreshed. Click “My Computer” on your desktop. Double click the “C:\” folder. Navigate to C:\Profiles\\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer. Replace “” with the username that you use to log in to your Windows computer. Locate the “Desktop.htt” file. Either rename this file to “Desktop.htt.old” or delete it. Right click the desktop and choose “Refresh.” The HTT file is created in the file directory automatically. Verify that the new file exists in the directory opened in Step 1 and close the Explorer window.
