Kids’ storage bins come in all shapes, sizes and materials, from fabric cubes to carved wooden boxes. Each bin will need a different plan of attack when it comes to restoring and redecorating it, but don’t fear — in most cases, the work will be easy and fun. Glue new fabric over the old if the old fabric won’t show through the new fabric. If the old fabric is especially brightly colored or has a pattern that might show through your new fabric, you have two options. Make cardboard panels to go on top of your old fabric and underneath your new fabric to keep the old fabric from showing through. Cut up an old cardboard box or cereal box to make the panels. Use thick white or natural-color fabric like jute on top of the old fabric and underneath the new fabric if you do not have cardboard. Glue the jute to the old fabric and smooth it flat before gluing the new fabric to the jute. Fix splintered wood by using wood filler over the splinters then sand the area.
