If you are a compassionate person, moved by the plight of helpless, homeless animals, then you will want to learn how to safely trap and care for some of the smaller members of the animal kingdom. Kittens just seem to be cute by nature – but feral (wild, undomesticated) kittens can be surprisingly fierce and can cause injury to you, if you are not properly prepared. Once you notice feral kittens in your yard, borrow or rent a safe trap (such as Havahart) from your local humane society or hardware store. Set it up loaded with kitten food or tuna fish. Check the trap at regular intervals, particularly at dusk and into early evening, as this seems to be the time when the kittens venture out looking for food. You want to be sure not to leave a kitten (or other wild animal) trapped too long.
