How Do You Use A Crosscut Saw?
Crosscut saws have been used since the days of horse drawn wagons. They’re sort of a lost technology. They were used in the construction of ships, wagons, houses and anything else that required wood to build. Although they have mostly been replaced by power tools they’re still in use around the world. Prepare the crosscut saw for use by first using a file to sharpen the blades. Secure the saw to a work bench then file each cutter 4 times. Flip the saw over and file the other side of the cutters. Draw a straight line on the piece of wood you are cutting. Carpenter’s chalk works very well for this purpose. Fasten the wood that you want to cut with the crosscut saw. You can use a clamp for this or hold it down firmly. Place the crosscut saw on the line opposite from you. Push down on the crosscut saw and give it a short, firm stroke to begin the cut. Push and pull the crosscut saw in a repetitive motion to cut the wood. Keep the same downward pressure on both the pull and the push stroke.
