The original Xbox system came with wired controllers. These controllers feature an inline release cable. In the event of the Xbox controller being pulled, the inline release cable will detach, preventing the Xbox console from falling and breaking, or worse, injuring someone. For this reason, it is important that the inline release be functional at all times. Also, in order to avoid damaging the controller and console, do not touch the metal contacts in either the controller plug or the console’s controller port.
