Applying peel and stick roll roofing membrane is a crucial step in the roofing process. Once you’ve prepped your roof surface, the roofing membrane will waterproof the entire surface, keeping rain, melted snow or condensation from seeping into the roof structure and creating rot. Make sure to apply a durable, water-shedding roofing surface–like asphalt tile or clay tile–over the roll and stick roof membrane to protect it. Prepare the roof to be covered with peel and stick roll roofing by sweeping any loose debris off of it. Nail down any loose boards. Staple aluminum flashing over any major knots or holes in the roof’s structure, and ensure that the drip edge or edge iron–the metal edge along the eaves and sloping edge of the roof–is nailed securely in place.
