How does an infrared camera work?

An infrared camera takes pictures using heat (infrared radiation) similarly to a camera that forms an image by using visible light. Instead of showing light and dark, an infrared camera shows you hot and cold. This lets me see where heat or A/C is escaping from your home. CLICK HERE for more information on Infrared Cameras.

Infrared cameras are non-contact devices that detect the infrared energy (heat) that an object is giving off and then converts the energy to an electronic signal. The signal is processed to produce a thermal image on a monitor and the data is used to perform thermal calculations. The heat detected by the infrared cameras are quantified and are precise, but still require an understanding of thermal concepts in order to make a proper assessment of the information.

An infrared camera is a non-contact device that detects infrared energy (heat) and converts it into an electronic signal, which is then processed to produce a thermal image on a video monitor and perform temperature calculations. Heat sensed by an infrared camera can be very precisely quantified, or measured, allowing you to not only monitor thermal performance, but also identify and evaluate the relative severity of heat-related problems. Recent innovations, particularly detector technology, the incorporation of built-in visual imaging, automatic functionality, and infrared software development, deliver more cost-effective thermal analysis solutions than ever before. Why Use Infrared Thermography? A picture is worth a thousand words; infrared thermography is the only diagnostic technology that lets you instantly visualize and verify thermal performance. EMR Tech’s infrared program shows you apparent thermal problems, quantifies them with precise non-contact temperature measurement, an

ATCs (artist trading cards) will be swapped. Bring your own 2-1/2″ x 3-1/2″ creations and trade away! 1:00-3:00pm = a workshop for making ATCs. Bring yourself and whatever gear you’d like to work with. Beginners are welcome; even if you don’t have any art supplies, come and try your hand. The first part of the workshop will be hands-on, general, ATC construction. At about 2:00, we will have some demonstrations of specific techniques. (If you would like to do a presention, please call Lois at 758-5058 to be scheduled into this program or a later workshop. Help with set-up or clean-up would be welcome.
