How does BASF assess the safety of its nanotechnology products?

It is our responsibility to ensure that our products are safe. This applies to nanomaterials as well as to any other product in our portfolio. In the context of our safety control we classify our nanomaterials into nanostructured products and products that contain nanoparticles. Nanostructured products have nanostructured surfaces or cavities in the nanometer range, such as nanoporous foams or MOFs. These products present no risk resulting from the presence of nanostructures. We assess our products that contain nanoparticles – like all our products – according to the regulations and requirements of the valid chemicals legislation. We also determine whether exposure to nanoparticles is possible during production, processing and for the end consumer. If it is, we perform further special toxicology studies. Our existing research results show that, when used as intended, none of our products can present any hazard to health and the environment. Advances in nanotechnology are also accompani
