How does CHAIN relate to EAD and do they overlap?
EAD is closely related to the revised processes of the quality functions that will be developed through CHAIN. As such, EAD and CHAIN are complementary. The EAD operates under the scope of the “AIS function only” and the up-stream data chain (origination and input into AIS/EAD) cannot be addressed. In its scope, the EAD is able to meet integrity requirements but all quality aspects must be considered as well: “Rubbish in, rubbish out”. Also, in the EAD environment there is a greater need to move to electronic data transfer. In summary, the EAD requires high quality data feed and controlled and harmonised upstream processes.
