How does computer network work?
Networks are based on computers linked together to share information and resources. Computers have their own addresses – IP addresses and in an office environment they have a shared subnet mask – this means that all the computers can see each other and talk to each other. Information is sent from one pc to another and a reply is given. Remote access works in various different ways. for instance – VNC is a program that allows a computer admin to remote onto any pc – as long as the VNC software is installed, they know the IP address and the password – in an office PC admins know all this info and can log on. If you take the laptop home the IP address changes as you are no longer on their network so they cannot access it. PCanywhere is very similar to VNC – you need to have the software installed, know the IP address and the password. Another type of software is a web based called Logmein – in this environment the logmein software is installed on the destination PC. The admin then logs on
