Newton never understood what gravity was. He knew how to explain the mathematics of gravity, but he never figured out what made objects orbit and attract. Then, Einstein revolutionized science with the general relativity theory. Einstein postulated that things with mass warp space time. Meaning, if you think of space time as a trampoline, and you place a heavy object, the trampoline/space time warps. This causes other objects to orbit and attract. Motion does not affect how one views the speed of light. The speed of light is constant, now matter what the speed or the vantage point of the observer is. Time is not absolute because the speed of light is absolute. Time must slow down in order for all motion in the universe to be relative, which it is. What remains the same for all reference frames is the speed of light.
