How does polar fleece work both as a liner and as a nappy cover?

Polar fleece and micro fleece are polyester fabrics that are not abosrbant. Used as a liner, the urine passes through as the fabric and is wicked away from the babys skin and into the absorbent layers underneath, leaving babys skin feeling dry. This is because urine is usually an ‘active’ wetness (a fast stream of fluid) which readily flows through the fabric. By the time the wetness gets through the nappy to the fleece cover it has become a ‘passive’ dampness which the fleece contains as long as there is enough absorbency in the nappy to prevent the wetness reaching the cover in an active stream.
