Protocol optimization achieves acceleration by improving the operation of the systems that control the transfer of data across the Internet. These parameters can be adjusted so as to improve operation in a specific type of environment. Use of Proprietary Protocols: When proprietary software can be installed at both ends of the slow link, a proprietary protocol can be used to transfer the data through the slow link. One example is to replace TCP with a proprietary transport protocol that is designed to handle the problems associated with the slow link.
