How does recycling save the enviroment?
Recycling is a way of creating new things without using up more raw materials. For example making something out of metal by melting down old metal objects that are no longer used, therefore without having to mine new metal; or turning old paper into new without chopping down more trees; or making new plastics from old plastics without using more petrochemicals. Recycling doesn’t necessarily use less energy than a new alternative, so in terms of ‘global warming’ it might not be better, but it reduced the ‘ecological footprint’ (the effect people have on the environment around them) in terms of the amount of raw materials people use.
