It is a hands-on healing technique, which is unique due to an ancient attunement process . This is the main difference. This process apparently originates within the Buddhist tradition and creates an open channel for cosmic energy to flow through the Reiki healer, or giver, to the receiver . Of course, all other healing processes and healers tap into this energy it is just that the Reiki attunement process enhances the ability of the person to better channel the Universal Life Energy. How long does a treatment take? A full Reiki treatment takes about one hour, sometimes an hour and a half. I place my hands in several positions over the whole body. The treatment starts on the head, where there are basically five positions, and I stay from between two to five minutes in each position.
