How does RFID Anywhere help increase the value of sensor networks and not just provide loads of raw data?
RFID Anywhere focused on letting application developers define what RFID data is important to them, allowing the useless data to be discarded as soon as possible. The smoothing feature allows temporary data inconsistencies to be ignored to avoid generating meaningless events. For example, if a reader reads a specific RFID tag, then the tag isn’t read during a 5 second span only to re-appear thereafter, was that tag ever really gone, or did some external interference simply get in the way? Smoothing allows such interferences to be ignored so that useless data is not generated. Another feature that prevents the buildup of data is filtering. This is the process of only reporting on tags that match a certain criteria. For example, a simple filter might only generate activity reports for RFID-tagged pallets that enter a warehouse and might discard any case-level tags picked up by the RFID readers. As well, a distributed network is used so that only data that is considered important is sent
