How does sampling work?

During the publish process, authors determine what percentage of their book they want to make available as a free sample. If they permit 30%, for example, then the first 30% of the book starting at page one is available for online sampling via one of the Smashwords readers. Our online retailing partners may have sampling practices that differ from Smashwords. Smashwords will make every effort to inform its authors/publishers of the differing sampling practices, and will always give the author/publisher the option to opt out of any online distribution outlet in which the policies do not meet with the author/publisher’s approval.

Remember, as the author, you’re able to view and download your entire book. If you want to view your book as others will view it, click the logout button at the bottom of the screen, return to your book page, and you’ll see how the sampling percentage is enforced.
