How does the CVT work?
A The CVT on the Murano uses a segmented reinforced steel belt and conical pulleys that provide smooth power transfer to the drive train without the abruptness of automatic transmissions that use gears. The best explanation is the Murano does not “gear-hunt” when driving up steep inclines such as mountain roads. The Nissandriven website has an interactive guide on how this technological marvel works. Nissan claims a 10% increase in fuel economy, presumably due to the absence of shifting gears. To many, the CVT is incredibly smooth. Once you drive one, you won’t believe it. It is a totally different feeling.
