How does the Fishlake OHV project relate to changes in Forest Service travel rules and regulations being proposed at the National level?

There is a National OHV Policy Team that is focused on three key points for a designated use system to minimize or eliminate the impacts from unmanaged OHV use: 1. Wheeled OHV travel will be allowed on designated roads, trails and areas. 2. Cross-country travel by wheeled OHVs will generally be prohibited; and 3. Decisions of which roads, trails and areas to designate will be made at the field level. The draft rules prescribe Forests that allow motorized cross-country travel to move to a designated system of routes and areas. As currently proposed, the revised national rules do not take effect until a given Forest completes a route designation process that includes public involvement. The Fishlake OHV Route Designation Project is consistent with the proposed direction and will address these concerns. However, the Forest saw the need for and began planning for route designation before the National direction was proposed. For more information on the Forest Service’s nation-wide efforts t
