How does the LAN Modems DHCP server work?

0

A. The factory default is for the LAN Modem to have an IP address of 192.168.1.1 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.224. It will issue IP addresses in the range 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.26. When requested by a workstation, the LAN Modem will issue the workstation with an IP address, DNS address, gateway address, and IP “lease”. The DNS and gateway addresses will be the IP address of the LAN Modem. The IP lease will be 24 hours – meaning the workstation will need to re-request an IP address every 24 hours or less. The IP lease is not honored by the LAN Modem however. The IP address is considered permanently assigned to the MAC address of the workstation’s Network Interface Card.
