How does the multiplayer interface work?
We’ve learned a lot about multiplayer interfaces from other RTSs and from our previous experience with RoN, and the interface in Rise of Legends is one of the best because of it. It features Buddy Lists, Clan Creation/Administration, Quick Battles and skill-based matchmaking. Within a few clicks, you can be instantly in a 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 or even 4v4 match. Routers and firewalls are much less of a problem now as RoL uses UDP for multiplayer, and you only need one port open for it to work. Chances are, if you can run WC3 through your firewall/router, you can run RoL without making a single change. In custom games, you can set a random map to be selected based on the size of the game you are looking to host. There are options like FFA, 2v2v2, 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 2v2v2v2, and Diplomacy.
