How does the search bar on Etsy work?
The search bar atop every page is contextual, based on what section of the the site you’re in. Look directly to the right of the search bar to find the drop-down menu, which shows you exactly what you’re searching. You can change what’s selected to search different areas. The shopping search on Etsy is divided into three types of listings: Handmade, Supplies and Vintage. You can also choose to search the entire marketplace by choosing All Items from the drop-down menu. You can use multiple terms in a search to narrow down the results. You can also use special operators. Using NOT or the minus sign (-) in front of a word will exclude that term from your search. You can use % as a wildcard operator to search when you only know part of a term. For example, using “sellers: usernames” on the drop-down menu and searching for “%love” will return results for all shops with the word “love” somewhere in the name.
