How does the WISCORS system work?
The WISCORS (Wisconsin Continuously Operating Reference Stations) is a network of continually operating GPS receivers that stream data to a server via the internet. Communication to and from the network server and the GPS RTK rover is made via a cellular phone modem interfaced to the rover. When the survey begins, the rover provides the server with an approximate position. The server then creates a virtual base station in the location of the rover. If the user moves far enough from the initial virtual base, the network will automatically create new base station(s) for the new location(s). The server provides correction data in RTCM or CMR+ format to the rover via the modem, similar to the way traditional base stations provide corrections to the rover via radio.
