How far can the fence follow a downhill slope (known as raking or racking)?

Most Residential sections of fence can rake about 2 – 3 feet over their span, and Commercial sections rake about 12″. (Some styles can not rake as far. Check the notes on the detail pages for each fence style for differences.) If you want to follow a steeper slope than this without stepping the fence, you need to order a “double-punched” section. The square holes in these rails are about twice as wide as in a standard rail to allow for greater picket movement. Consequently, these sections can drop about 36″ over their length. There is an additional charge for this modification, so contact Customer Service for details. Regency styles with rings and Patriot Ornamental Wire sections can not rake at all and need to be stepped. This is best achieved with the use of wall mount castings and blank posts.
