How good a pet is the African Pygmy Hedgehog?

0

I’ve had hedgehogs in my life for over 13 years now. So for me they are wonderful. They have lots of downsides, but for me the upsides outweigh the bad. How good are they as pets will entirely depend on what you expect out of them. If you are expecting a pet that will play with you, want your attention, etc then they are going to be very disappointing as most hedgehogs are not exactly playful. Some hedgehogs are also what I term looking at hedgehogs. They simply just don’t like to be touched. I have one now. He is a lot of fun as long as I don’t try to pet him. He will snuggle on my chest, and do normal hedgehog things with me as long as there is no petting involved. One of the biggest things hedgehogs have taught me is that if you take your time and be patient great rewards can be in the future. I say this because if you ever get a unsocialized hedgehog, it takes a great deal of time and patience sometimes just to get them to uncurl. But once they do, you feel like you have made a hug
