I assume the latter varies depending on which aspect ratio is being used. –> –> #2 David Mullen ASC View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Visit Homepage Moderator Join Date Apr 2007 Posts 5,050 06-29-2009, 03:43 PM Since “K” describes horizontal resolution only, aspect ratio factors less into it, just the width of the film negative, which is usually either Sound / Academy or Silent / Full / Super for 35mm. 35mm Full Aperture is roughly 24mm wide and generally should be scanned at 4K across (4096 pixels) in order to capture all the detail in the frame, including grain. But there’s a slight difference between optimal scanning resolution and measurable scene resolution — that can vary. Also, if you’re trying to compare this to the RED, remember that a scanner scans each color channel at the selected resolution, whereas a single-sensor camera has to generate three colors from a single m
