How important is it for U.S. cotton farmers to take advantage of new technology?
We now have a condensed time frame for our farmers to use any new technology due to its increased rapid availability worldwide. So, we’re compelled to move quickly just to keep from falling behind. How can research and development advance U.S. cotton’s position in the marketplace? The cotton industry already has a strong research program in place – one of the best in the agricultural sector. The government’s role is to equip industry with every possible tool through legislation and funding to make sure that ability is fully expressed. Is free trade the key to improving U.S. cotton’s competitiveness? It’s one very important element, and cotton producers know this better than anyone. Our producers need as much free trade as can possibly be reached. As a farmer who produced corn, beans and pork, I know I would not have survived without international trade.
