How is Alzheimers disease different from “Brain Cancer”?
With brain cancer you have tumors made of mutated cells rapidly dividing and they don’t react to hormones that would normally restrict their expansion. With Alzheimer’s you have protein compounds building up on certain parts of the brain hindering the electrical relays of the brain and rapid cell death. If you looked at the brains of these two different conditions you’d see that the brain with the cancer would have abnormal growths at one or many locations (a large tumor might even stretch out the skull), but the Alzheimer’s brain would be more hollow than a normal brain. Both are degenerative, both cause brain damage, can cause dementia and eventually be terminal (because the brain can no longer take care of the body and can be blocked from doing basic things like breathing, but a benign tumor is less of a threat). It’s really morbid stuff.
