There would be a lot of science in it, you would need to know about the soil you are working with, because different soils preserve things in different ways, also some soils have clear levels in. You would need to know a bit about soil science to do that. Also you would need to be able to work out the age of things you find with carbon dating, and I don’t know much about that, but it sounds sciencey!
