How is Christian Aid responding – to the drought and to the refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs)?
Our partner response currently includes the following: Christian Aid has committed funds from Ireland Aid to our partner the Sanayee Institute for Education and Learning (SIEAL). Ireland Aid is the official aid programme of the Irish government. A grant of IR200,000 (170,000) is enabling SIEAL to assist around 6,000 people in the western provinces of Herat, Farah and Badghis. These are people who have recently fled their homes in Afghanistan either because their food has run out or because they fear US military attacks. Each person receives three months’ food supplies, a 10kg package of flour, beans, sugar, rice, tea and cooking oil. Each family also gets a tent, blankets, water containers, soap and fuel (kerosene). SIEAL will follow this distribution up with further aid, funds permitting. Christian Aid is working in Pakistan with ACT partner Norwegian Church Aid (NCA).
