How is endowment performance measured?

0

Emory’s endowment performance is measured versus a long-term investment objective of achieving an average real total return of at least 6% per annum. A “real” return is defined as a return reduced by the rate if inflation over the same time period. This objective seeks to preserve and enhance the real purchasing power of the assets in perpetuity while providing a relatively predictable and stable stream of earnings for current spending needs. Growth of the Endowment through real investment return that exceeds spending over the long term will enhance the institution’s ability to meet its goals.
