Haemoglobin in the cells is the holder of the oxygen, and it transforms into Oxyhaemoglobin once it is “oxidized” How does it do that? Remember you have been told that iron plays an important part right? Yes, iron from ingested food is attracted into the cells. As how rust is formed, the iron attracts oxygen which merges into the haemoglobin instead. As the blood circulates, the unstable Oxyhaemoglobin decomposes back into haemoglobin and oxygen, with the oxygen distributed to the nearby organ and the haemoglobin going back around to attract more oxygen. And the cycle repeats itself over and over again……
